Job Summary:
The Commodity Manager develops, implements and maintains a commodity inventory strategy that supports the company supply chain. This includes coordinating activities involved with procuring goods, services and supplies for the organization. These products and services are to be secured at cost quality, and delivery competitive levels consistent with Company policy and performance standards.
This position is also responsible for evaluating and recommending vendors that source for functions directly associated with the Company's needs. This includes indirect materials and services, fixed assets and tooling, and select production materials and services. The Commodity Manager will be responsible for identifying and managing short and long-term sourcing strategies, performance metrics, contracts and relationships with suppliers. Responsibilities include improving supplier delivery, quality and lead-time and reducing inventory in order to improve customer service and total cost of ownership. The position is further responsible for the timely planning, scheduling of receipt and inventory control of the products and services as assigned consistent with MRP requirements or as appropriately concluded with a requisitioner.
Responsibilities(Specific tasks, duties, essential functions of the job)
- Assess supplier capability, cost benefit analysis, issue resolution, risk mitigation and contingency planning.
- Responsible for strategic management of specified commodity including total cost optimization including, payment terms, inventory and lead-time reduction and supplier consolidation.
- Develop performance metrics for measurement and evaluation based upon established key performance indicators (KPI's).
- Provide monthly report card of top suppliers and address any outstanding discrepancies.
- Identify items that are at risk or single sourced and work with appropriate teams to mitigate risk by developing dual sourcing, qualification of different material, or develop plans to minimize risk of supply.
- Routinely checks product quality in inventory and ensures inventory is being rotated properly (FIFO).
- Collaborates with internal business units and drives strategic alignment within the company to support long-term corporate sourcing strategies.
- Support company to achieve the revenue and EBIT target. Ensure supply continuity and responsible for supplier chain risk management.
- Manage the overall supplier relationship with all key suppliers.
- Support new product introduction projects through sourcing, negotiation and risk mitigation.
- Drive the cost reduction program and meet the cost reduction goals for regular commercialized products.
- Track commodity pricing trends in the marketplace, understand cost implications on sourced parts and use as leverage in supplier negotiations and use to develop longer-term sourcing strategies.
- Collaborate with Product Development teams and Design Engineering in the early stages of product development – insuring the lowest cost product designs and the use of strategic suppliers.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

- Experienced working with OEM and contract manufacturers.
- Experience with development, implementation and budgetary controls related to custom designed parts and the associated tooling.

- Some traveling is required for supplier selection and management activities.

Qualifications(Experience and Education)
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Industrial Management, Logistics, or related technical discipline, required.
- 5-10 years of experience in supply chain management, procurement/purchasing, inventory and production material planning required. Preferably in medical device manufacturing.
- Professional designation (CPM, CPIM, or similar SPICS Certification), preferred.
- Intermediate knowledge/proficiency in Microsoft Office, required.
- A combination of training, education and experience that is equivalent to the qualifications listed above and that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
